book meme stolen from angiasaa [21 May 2005|07:52pm]
Just because everyone is doing it!

1) Total number of books owned?

Part of a circulating library is stacked with some of my collection, which I am willing to part with- should be around 500 odd. At home I have around 253 books(last count)- and these are not counting the ones left back home in India.

2)The last book I bought?
Rabindranath Tagore- Choker Bali

3) The last book I read?
Robert Ludlum- The Bourne Identity
John Grisham- The Testament
Rabindranath Tagore- Choker Bali
JB Priestly- An Inspector Calls (A play)

4) 5 books that mean a lot to me?

a) Nelle Harper Lee - To Kill a Mocking Bird- This book was a part of my literature course, and I fell in love with it. The beauty of the book was the way a young girl comes to age by seeing the society in a way we would normally shield children from seeing.

b)Mildred D Taylor- Roll of Thunder; Hear My Cry- A book that is opposite of "to kill a mocking bird" it focuses on life of a black girl. Very heart warming.

c) Ashok K Banker- Full Series of the Ramayana- A seven part series( only two are out currently) of an Indian myth- retold to suit the modern tastes. Brilliantly conceptulized and executed with flowing words, this series has the makings of a classic.

d) Maya Angelou- Poems, books, quotes- anything written by this phenomen is brilliant. I treasure every written word by her. Most favourite book -" I know why the caged bird sings"

e) The Bhagvad Gite- To put it simply, there is a lot one can learn from this book. Apart from the fact that one picks up sanskrit- the Gita has a lot of life's lessons, which might not make sense when you read them, though putting them to practice workds. I had to mention the Gita, because is is an irreplacable part of my life.
